011: #082 Eating Establishment

A self-appointed bouncer chasing off a younger would-be diner at my bird feeder.
Deer were not what I was trying to take pictures of, but they are hungry, too.

  4. Funny, you should hire him as a bouncer at the local bar, he looks pretty tough! This is an incredible catch - awesome picture (and even better take on the theme)!

  6. What kind of food do you put out to attract deer?

  7. Nan, that was just birdseed in the bird feeder.

I live in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the deer are protected (no hunting) so the population has grown beyond the food supply. I have an old apple tree that I never spray, and that's food for them as long as the apples last. In the summer they feast on garden plants. My neighbor keeps trying to grow rhododendron, but the deer think it's salad. I lost my roses to the deer, and they eat the nice juicy buds on a late daylily at the bottom of the front steps -- they don't bother until the buds are just ready to open. Then there's the ivy I planted to cover a retaining wall. They cleaned off the ivy leaves in the last couple of weeks.

  8. now that's some hungry deer - but wow what a sight to see that on your lawn. We don't have anything wild around here although there is a rumor that a wild turkey roams around the neighborhood although I haven't seen him.

  12. Great capture - there's so much movement and drama in this photo. Love the fresh take on the theme of "eating establishment". And, of course, the deer are cute - but you probably don't think so since they decimate your garden.

  13. This is all good: the shot, the theme fit, snow exposure...
( just was listening to a radio show that plays tunes from the 40's and the tune was 'get out of here and get me some money too')

  15. Lucky you to get deer visiting - probably has its downsides though.

    Nice action shot.
